Match Play Championship

Our Match Play Championship ($15 entry fee) will be organized in flights of eight players of similar handicaps.  Everyone will play the first two rounds.  Players who win either their first of second match will advance to the third and final round.  Each flight will pay four players, the champion and three 2nd place winners with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss.
The first round will be played on a scheduled play day.  The dates for the second and third rounds will be scheduled by the players and must be completed within 14 days of the prior round.
PLAYERS WHO COMPETE IN ROUNDS 2 AND 3 MUST SIGN THEIR SCORE CARDS AND LEAVE THEM IN A DESIGNATED REPOSITORY IN THE PRO SHOPS.
FAILURE TO TURN IN A COMPLETED SCORE CARD WILL RESULT IN THE DISQUALIFICATION OF BOTH PLAYERS.

Details/Rules

  •  The first round on Wednesday June 4th   will be played on the Woodland Course
  •  Second round scheduled between June 5th and June 20th. Can be played at either course, mutually agreed upon.  (Must be completed by June 20th)
  • Third round scheduled between June 23rd and July 4th  Can be played at either course, mutually agreed upon. (Must be completed by 7/4)
  •     If no time or date can be mutually agreed upon, then the second round will be played on 6/18 at the Meadows during the Men’s Club Event and the third round will be played on 7/2 at the Woodlands during the Men’s Club Event.  If either player is still unavailable during this time, he will forfeit the match.
  • 1st round seeding for matches is based on handicap index in effect, June 1st, prior to the first day of play, June 4th. Within each flight, pairings will be lowest index versus highest index, e.g., 1st vs. 8th, 2nd vs. 7th, 3rd vs. 6th, and 4th vs. 5th
  • Golfers with an index of 13.0 and below will be in the first flight and will play from the Blue tees.
  • Once first round matches are completed, the second round matches will pair winners against winners and losers against losers.  These second round pairings will be posted on the web site, and the Woodlands Pro Shop by June 6th.
  • A  preprinted scorecard will be provided by the Competition Director for the first round only. Players will prepare their own cards for the second and third rounds, using their current handicap index available on line on the day of the match.  After rounds two and three, the winner must call the Tournament Director (Steve Peters) with the results and a signed scorecard must be placed in the “Match Play Championship Scorecard Box” in the Pro Shop at the golf course designated for that round. Completed cards will be used to determine the matches for the next round, to post the results on the web site and bulletin board, and by the Handicap Committee to post the score to GHIN. Failure to turn in a completed score card will result in the disqualification of both players

  • Since the event will cover up to four weeks from the beginning to the end of the competition,  players will use their actual handicap in force the date of the match.
  • After the first two rounds, any player who has won in the first or second round will play in the third round. The two players with 2-0 records will play for the flight championship.  The remaining four players with 1-1 records will play for the two third place cash prizes. Third round pairings will be posted on the web site, at the Meadows Pro Shop by, June 22nd.
  • Any match tied after 18 holes will continue to play on holes designated by the Pro Shop until a winner is determined.
  • The Handicap Committee, following USGA standards, will compute the scores for matches that end after 13 holes but before the 18th hole.  All rounds will be put into GHIN as a total score.
  • The Match Play Tournament Director (Steve PETERS  598-7207, e-mail sklp@earthlink.net) will oversee the competition, answer any questions from the players, ensure the matches are completed on time, collect score cards turned into the Pro Shop, and post results.  Any scheduling conflicts are to be resolved with the Director.
